Kenworth Unveils W900 Legacy Edition at Mid-America Trucking Show

Limited Run of 1,000 Units Celebrates an Iconic Era

March 27, 2025 | Louisville, KY - After more than six decades of production and legacy, Kenworth has officially unveiled the W900 Legacy Edition at the 2025 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS)—honoring one of the most admired trucks in North American history.

With over 280,000 W900s sold since its 1963 debut, the final production run is now underway, concluding in 2026 with this commemorative edition.

A Tribute to Heritage, Inside and Out

Powered by a Cummins X15 engine, painted in the classic legacy beige, the W900 Legacy Edition pays homage to its roots. Kenworth is reviving paint schemes from past limited-edition models—this marks the ninth special edition W900—along with fan-favorite designs that have stood the test of time.

Available configurations include the Extended Day Cab, 72-inch Flat Top, and 86-inch Studio Sleeper. Each unit will be individually serialized, counting down from 1000 to 0001, and feature a special Legacy Edition badge on the glovebox.

Inside, drivers will find a luxurious black Diamond VIT interior accented with platinum stitching, Ravenwood trim, and throwback Kenworth logos. Sleeper models also get a vintage tuck-and-roll back wall, giving a respectful nod to decades past. Even the hood badges are a throwback, borrowing the design that gained popularity in 1966.

The End of an Era, with Eyes on the Future

While the W900’s legacy is coming to a close—driven by emissions regulations and component constraints—its impact is lasting. Looking ahead, Kenworth’s W990 will carry the mantle. The W990 offers the same bold long-hood style in a more modern, aerodynamic, and emissions-compliant platform—blending tradition with innovation.

Kenworth’s Legacy at MATS

Kenworth has long had a strong presence at the Mid-America Trucking Show, dating back to the 1980s when the company sponsored concerts featuring the band Alabama to attract drivers and build community. Over the years, the show has grown into the largest annual heavy-duty trucking event in the world, drawing over 70,000 attendees each year.

Kenworth has used the event as a launchpad for several flagship models, including:
•    The aerodynamic T660 in 2006
•    The advanced T680 in 2012
•    The vocational powerhouse T880 in 2013
